Cavity Wall Insulation
Had this guy knock on to tell me I’m entitled to free cavity wall insulation, I told him nothings for free but he informed me that I pay for it through my heating bills. All seemed a bit suspect but I’ve got a surveyor coming tomorrow and now wonder if I’m doing the right thing,
Not usually a gullible person but does sound a bit iffy.

So this thing I got for free could now make me some money?

Indeed munkyfunk. There are a load of claims management firms already set up and backed by huge funds and consortiums of lawyers ready to hit this market.

CWI claims are the new PPI.

Few firms trying to cash in on cavity wall damages due to damp and condensation it causes now.

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
Don't do it.

Had ours done under the subsidised scheme 10 years ago.

Now suffer from damp and condensation as they seal the air bricks up to stop the insulation leaking into the house.

They drilled hundreds hundreds of holes in the external walls to pump the insulation in but made a right mess - our house looked like a bullet ridden Syrian hospital.

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
The idea of the cavity is to prevent damp transferring from the outside to the inside, fill that cavity with insulation and in effect you have a solid wall which will transfer damp INTO your home. Don't do it.

Don't bother. Retro-fitting cavity wall insulation can cause lots of problems.

Had Cavity and loft done under the scheme years ago and no fees paid.

Interestingly enough the latest ring round scheme to to say that the free stuff caused condensation and damp issues and would I like a free survey?

Would I fuck.

Only if you qualify through claiming certain benefits is my understanding. I don’t understand the phrase “paying for it through heating bills” unless it refers to the government’s Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) scheme but for that I think you still need to be on some sort of benefit so if you are crack on.

Anyway, Kidders let us know how you get on please. I don’t need Wall insulation but I do need a new boiler.

Seeing as though you love facts, the then Warm Front scheme was introduced as a Labour scheme in 2000 and remodelled - and reduced in scope - following the coalition Comprehensive Sending Review in 2013.

Syd - You don’t buy it. It’s free.

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
Also consider how old your house is, and I think it is only properly "free" if you or someone in your house is on certain benefits.

On rare occasions WHO is not the best or only source of reliable information.

P.S. I would never buy anything so important from someone who knocked on my door, at the very least without getting alternative quotes and professional advice first. Your knocker is clearly on commission and will tell you anything to get the work.
